VR TARTU 1913

Client: Blueray OÜ
What we did: 3D reconstruction of the historic buildings, creating the environment (river, greenery and sky with animations)
Year: 2018-2019

VR Tartu 1913 was one of the most labor-intensive projects for us, which lasted a little less than a year. Since it is an authentic historical architectural 3D reconstruction of the city of Tartu in 1913, we had to go through hundreds of photos and select photos that are suitable for that year. In total, we completed a 3D reconstruction of several dozen historical Tartu buildings, including the 3D reconstruction of Kivisild. Kivisild was the first stone bridge to be constructed in the Baltic States. It was erected in the 18th century at one end of the Town Hall Square in Tartu, with two triumphal arches and a raisable mid-section. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during World War II.

This type of work is similar to assembling a complex puzzle, because, as a rule, it is not possible to use traditional techniques - the 3D modeler is not provided with front, side or top view drawings of the objects. There are photos of quite different quality, from different angles and sometimes even not exactly from the same year.

Another characteristic of this work was that any of the corresponding buildings no longer exist in current Tartu (except Olevik`s house – this is the current Hesburger restaurant building next to the Kaarsild bridge).
